Simone Inzaghi rejects Manchester United approach

Simone Inzaghi has reportedly turned down Manchester United’s offer to succeed Erik ten Hag after the international break.

According to Sport Italia, Simone Inzaghi has turned down Manchester United’s approach to replace Erik ten Hag during the upcoming international break. The Italian manager seems happy with his present surroundings, as the scrutiny on Erik ten Hag’s positions continues to become unattainable.

Many Manchester United supporters feel the club should not have extended Erik ten Hag’s deal after the FA Cup win and opted for a change of manager in the summer. Instead, the Red Devils, now managed by Sir Jim Ratcliffe-led INEOS, decided to keep the Dutchman at the helm and give him time to build the team.

Their decision has turned into a nightmare of sorts, considering how badly Manchester United have begun their season on all fronts. Since the home defeat to Liverpool, the spotlight has been on ten Hag’s future, as the recent loss to Tottenham at Old Trafford, and the disappointing draw away at Porto might have made INEOS rethink their stance.

There is mixed chatter around Old Trafford about their stance on ten Hag. Some sections have called for his dismissal, while others inside the club are willing to back him. Either way, the rumours have continued to flow in reports, as many managers have been linked with replacing the Dutchman immediately.

One of them would be Simone Inzaghi, with Manchester United linked with the Inter Milan manager to replace ten Hag. As per the latest update, the Red Devils have approached to bring the Nerazzurri boss to come after the international break. However, the 48-year-old Serie A-winning manager has no interest in such a move, meaning he has turned down the proposal.

Inzaghi is happy with his current surroundings

As one might expect, Inzaghi is contesting to retain the Serie A title that was won last season. Considering the intense level of competition brewing in Italy, it is hard to leave such a surrounding. Hence, he will likely stay put at Inter Milan and help them grow in Serie A as well as in Europe.

As for Manchester United, it is difficult to approach a top manager at another big club, as in the case of Inzaghi and Inter Milan. Should they proceed with sacking Ten Hag, there are quite a few options in the market, such as Graham Potter or former England manager Gareth Southgate. There are whispers of a possible approach for Thomas Tuchel, with the trio currently out of a job.
