Everton could consider Lee Carsley to replace Sean Dyche

Everton might turn to 50-year-old English national team coach Lee Carsley if they part ways with Sean Dyche in the coming weeks.

According to a report by Give Me Sport, Lee Carsley is the subject of interest from Everton. The Toffees are weighing up their options after a horrendous start to the 2024/25 season. So, several candidates have emerged on the Merseyside club’s radar, with the 50-year-old tactician the latest name on the wishlist.

Lee Carsley and a career under the radar

Lee Carsley has risen in prominence after taking temporary charge of the English national side this year. A native of Birmingham, he spent his formative years and subsequent professional career at the club level in England, turning out for Derby County, Blackburn Rovers, Coventry City, Everton, and Birmingham City.

However, the 50-year-old represented the Republic of Ireland in international football, making 40 appearances in a career that spanned over a decade. Carsley entered the managerial world in 2012 but has not had a notable job thus far in the last dozen years. He has managed Coventry City (caretaker), Brentford, and Birmingham City (caretaker) at the club level.

The former Republic of Ireland international has made his mark in international football, impressing in his spells with England’s under-20 and under-21 sides. Carsley’s latest job has come with the senior team, replacing Gareth Southgate at the helm after UEFA Euro 2024.

What next?

The Three Lions have been impressive under the tutelage of Lee Carsley (who has taken interim charge of the English national side), winning both games with a 2-0 scoreline. Meanwhile, his exploits in the early days at the helm of England have made an impression on the decision-makers at Everton, with a job at his former club on the cards.

The Toffees are weighing up parting ways with Sean Dyche after a horrendous start to the 2024/25 season that has seen them manage only one point in their first five Premier League games. So, several candidates, including Gareth Southgate, have emerged on Everton’s radar, with Carsley also a viable target.

Meanwhile, recent reports have suggested that David Moyes is also open to rejoining Everton. So, it will be interesting to see who becomes the top target for the Merseyside club if Dyche cannot save his job at Goodison Park.
