Predicted Liverpool lineup against AC Milan: Nunez in for Jota

Darwin Nunez will replace Diogo Jota as the Liverpool striker against AC Milan at San Siro in the UEFA Champions League on Tuesday.

The Premier League giants crashed to a 1-0 defeat at home against the minnows on Sunday and they will look to make amends here. Prior to the defeat against Nottingham, Liverpool picked up three wins in a row without conceiving a goal. There is no doubt that they are a top team capable of grinding out a positive result here. It remains to be seen whether they can put their companies aside and produce a strong performance against the Italian giants.

Champions League clashes between Liverpool and AC Milan are steeped in history, and this could be another classic affair. The two sides have played out some memorable games in the past, including the 2005 Istanbul final.

Meanwhile, Milan picked up a comprehensive victory over Venezia in the last game, and they will be reasonably confident heading into the contest. They will fancy their chances against Liverpool, especially after the way the Premier League side performed against Nottingham. It will be interesting to see who comes out on top.

Liverpool do not have any major injury concerns heading into this game, and Harvey Elliott is the only absentee for the away side.

Arne Slot has confirmed that Federico Chiesa could make a camero here and Alexis Mac Allister is likely to play despite being taken off early in the last game.

“Don’t expect him to be there in the starting line-up because he has been with Juve [former club Juventus] training on his own for a long time, now with us for a few weeks, had some training time.

“It is too early for him to play 90 but hopefully he can make his first minutes in the upcoming fixtures.”

On the Argentine, he said: “I think you saw I took him off after 60 minutes, or somewhere around 60 minutes, against Nottingham Forest.

“That also had to do with him not playing the full 90 minutes with the national team, being out for a few days with an injury, so that had a bit to do with rotation.

“I think he is able to play tomorrow again, 60 or 90 minutes, and we will see the decision I will make tomorrow. But he is definitely, like the other 22, an important player for us.”

Liverpool are likely to start in a 4-2-3-1 formation with Brazilian international Alisson Becker in goal.

Trent Alexander Arnold and Andrew Robertson will continue to help out at both ends of the pitch. They will look to keep things compact defensively, and contribute in the attack. Ibrahima Konate will start alongside Virgil van Dijk in central defence.

In the midfield pivot, Ryan Gravenberch and Alexis Mac Allister will look to add defensive cover to the side and they will also also look to control the game from the deep.

Dominik Szoboszlai will be deployed as the attacking midfielder here, and he will look to create opportunities in the final third with his passing, technical liability and vision. Mohamed Salah and Luis Diaz will inject pace and flair into the Liverpool attack from the wide areas.

Darwin Nunez will lead the line for Liverpool.

Predicted Liverpool XI: Alisson; Alexander-Arnold, Konate, van Dijk, Robertson; Gravenberch, Mac Allister; Salah, Szoboszlai, Diaz; Nunez
