Arsenal poised to initiate contract negotiations with Mikel Arteta

Arsenal are all set to hold contract renewal talks with their Spanish manager Mikel Arteta with less than 12 months left on his deal.

According to a report from Caught Offside, Arsenal are looking to secure the long-term future of their manager Mikel Arteta. The Gunners are preparing to hold contract renewal talks with the Spanish manager this month with an aim to extend his stay until the 2027/28 season.

Arteta started as Pep Guardiola’s assistant at Manchester City. After three years in that role, Arsenal hired him towards the end of 2019 to lead their first team and bring them back to their best. So far, he has led them in 237 matches and averages 1.97 points per game.

The 42-year-old has done wonders for the North London club. He has helped them make a return to the UEFA Champions League and they are once again fighting for major titles under his guidance. He has been criticised for not being able to clinch the Premier League title in the last two seasons. But Arteta has surely taken them a long way.

Arsenal pushing to extend Mikel Arteta’s contract

With his contract running out at the end of the season, the Gunners want to secure his long-term future. They want to avoid a situation, where a top European club comes knocking and lures him away. While Arsenal were disappointed with how things turned out in the Champions League and the Premier League last season, they are delighted by the overall progress made under Arteta.

As a result, they want to secure his services until the 2027/28 season. The new contract will substantially increase the former Spanish midfielder’s wages. It will reflect the club’s confidence in the 42-year-old. Sporting director Edu who has played a big part in the North London club’s recent decisions will be leading the negotiations that are expected to begin this month as Arsenal show a lot of urgency.

Meanwhile, the report suggests Arteta will agree to extend his stay at the club. He has a very good relationship with the people at the club and has a desire to continue building on the progress that he has made in recent seasons.
