Sir Alex Ferguson wants Manchester United to appoint Mauricio Pochettino as Erik ten Hag replacement, move unlikely

Sir Alex Ferguson wants Mauricio Pochettino to be the next Manchester United manager with Erik ten Hag’s future still uncertain.

According to a report from HITC, Manchester United are in talks with potential candidates for the managerial job at Old Trafford. While they are yet to make a decision on Erik ten Hag’s future, they have been making moves to find his successor. Mauricio Pochettino is one of the names on their list, and he has the backing of Sir Alex Ferguson.

Manchester United did not reach the expected levels in Erik ten Hag’s second season in charge. While they did end the season in incredible fashion by winning the FA Cup against rivals Manchester City, the future of the Dutch manager was still in doubt because of the team’s poor performances throughout.

The Red Devils recently had an end-of-season review where they were supposed to decide the former Ajax manager’s future. But, they have not confirmed the outcome yet, and the manager is also unaware about his future at the club.

Mauricio Pochettino to be Manchester United’s next boss?

While people close to the club suggest no decision has been made about his future, they have already started holding talks with possible replacements. Mauricio Pochettino has been on their radar for a while now. He was in contention for the job back in 2022 before ten Hag arrived, and his name has once again taken centre stage as Sir Alex Ferguson wants the Argentine to be in charge.

Manchester United’s legendary manager has the ear of minority owner Sir Jim Ratcliffe, and he believes the former Chelsea manager could help revive the club. Ferguson is very close to the Argentine and is pressing his case for the managerial job at Old Trafford.

While Ferguson wants the 52-year-old to be Manchester United’s next manager, a report from The Times suggests that Mauricio Pochettino is no longer a part of their shortlist. He was sacked by Chelsea at the end of the season and is the on the lookout for the perfect opportunity to make a return.

Manchester United have already held a meeting with the Argentine post his departure from the London club. While he was very high on their wishlist, they Red Devils have decided against appointing him as their next boss.
