Sir Jim Ratcliffe reportedly met with Thomas Tuchel recently as the former Chelsea boss highlighted his plan should he replace Erik ten Hag.

According to Christian Falk, Thomas Tuchel is still very much on Manchester United’s shortlist to replace Erik ten Hag, as he held a meeting with Sir Jim Ratcliffe. The former Chelsea and Bayern Munich manager relayed his plans for the Red Devils should he take over the Old Trafford dugout, as Ten Hag’s future remains up in the air.

Thomas Tuchel holds talks with Sir Jim Ratcliffe

What is happening with the future of Erik ten Hag is one of the big questions asked around Manchester United in the current climate. The Dutchman went on holiday as soon as he helped the club lift the FA Cup, and that victory over Man City may have given Sir Jim Ratcliffe some food for thought.

On the eve of the FA Cup Final, reports suggested Manchester United had decided to sack Ten Hag, but two weeks after the game, a decision remains pending. Contrasting reports are suggesting they might be waiting on options to emerge, particularly Gareth Southgate, although Thomas Tuchel also remains on their radar in a big way.

Tuchel was one of the leading contenders in May, and now that he has left Bayern Munich, the former Chelsea manager is available to take on a new role. The German tactician reportedly held talks with Sir Ratcliffe in Monaco and outlined his plans for Manchester United should he replace Ten Hag.

The meeting in itself is a clear indication of Manchester United’s interest in the former Chelsea boss, and at the moment, he’s one of the big names available. Ten Hag indeed made a case after the FA Cup win, as Manchester United continues to ponder what they want to do with the Dutchman.

Will Tuchel improve Manchester United?

Christian Falk highlighted some of the critical points from Tuchel’s reported meeting with Sir Ratcliffe. They are primarily based on his plans for the club and what he might do with some of the key players, which are expensive acquisitions but with a hint of uncertainty.

For instance, he pointed to his prowess in turning things around with underperforming stars in the past, like Antonio Rudiger at Chelsea. He pinpointed this in reference to Mason Mount and the beleaguered Jadon Sancho. There’s a big chance that he might come in and improve Manchester United, although, in the past, his tenure has always ended in a fractious manner.
