Manchester United set to sack Erik ten Hag

Manchester United manager Erik ten Hag is under a lot of pressure after a mediocre league campaign and he is likely to be shown the door after the FA Cup final.

Manchester United will take on Manchester City in the FA Cup final at Wembley on Saturday and the result of the match is unlikely to have any bearing on the future of the Dutch manager. According to the Guardian, Manchester United have decided to sack him, regardless of the result.

It seems that the club hierarchy have decided to follow through with the ruthless decision to change the manager. There will be a fresh start at Old Trafford next year under a new regime. Sir Jim Ratcliffe and his allies have bought a minority stick at the club and they have assumed control of the football operations. They will now look to shake things up and bring in a new manager capable of guiding Manchester United to trophies.

Despite substantial banking in the transfer market, Ten Hag has not been able to live up to the expectations. Manchester United were quite mediocre with their performances in the league and they have missed out on Champions League qualification. For a club of their stature, it is simply unacceptable and it will be a devastating blow to their revenues.

Man United have been linked with several managers

It will be interesting to see if Manchester United can bring a quality manager in the summer. They have been linked with the number of managers like Thomas Tuchel, Mauricio Pochettino, Kieran McKenna, Garreth Southgate, Graham Potter, and Thomas Frank.

The report from the Guardian claims that Tuchel is currently the front runner to land the job, but the Red Devils have held talks with Pochettino and McKenna as well. It will be interesting to see who they end up with.

Meanwhile, Ten Hag has failed to get the best out of his big money signings at Old Trafford and Manchester United have wasted valuable resources on mediocre signings in recent seasons. It will be interesting to see if they can get rid of the deadwood and bring in quality players during the summer transfer window. A complete shake up is needed this summer in order for Manchester United to bounce back strongly.
