Stade Reims eyeing Davide Ancelotti swoop

Ligue 1 club Stade de Reims will reportedly look to sign 34-year-old Real Madrid coach Davide Ancelotti as the new manager.

According to reputed French journalist Santi Aouna, Davide Ancelotti is the subject of interest from Stade de Reims. The Red and Whites are scouring the market for a new manager after the departure of Will Still and have compiled a five-person list to replace him, with the 34-year-old Real Madrid coach being one of the candidates.

Davide Ancelotti is the son of legendary Italian manager Carlo Ancelotti. Born in Parma, he spent his formative years with AC Milan before graduating from the fabled Italian club’s youth division over a decade and a half ago. However, his playing career did not flourish, and he retired in 2009 before securing a degree in sports science.

Ancelotti has been in his father’s backroom staff for nearly a decade, with his first job coming with Bayern Munich. The 34-year-old has served as the assistant manager at Bayern Munich, Napoli, Everton, and Real Madrid, gaining critical knowledge of the managerial world before he branches out on his own.

Widespread investigation into Carlo Ancelotti’s methods and success has revealed Davide’s tactical awareness, with his stock rising during his father’s latest stint with Real Madrid. And the Italian coach might soon get his first managerial assignment, with Stade de Reims keen on securing his services.

The Red and Whites are scouring the market for a new manager after parting ways with Will Still. The 31-year-old is one of the best young minds in the managerial world and saw his stock skyrocket during his spell with the Ligue 1 club. However, a ninth-placed finish forced Reims to part ways with Still and look for a new manager.

So, Davide Ancelotti has emerged as one of the targets for the Ligue 1 club with four other candidates. Le Havre’s Luka Elsner, BSC Young Boys’ Joel Magnin, former PSG assistant manager Joao Sacramento, and Miron Muslic of Cercle Brugge also feature on Reims’ wishlist.

So, Ancelotti faces stiff competition for the job, although it is unclear if he is ready to leave his father’s side at Real Madrid to branch out this summer. It will be interesting to see what the 34-year-old decides if the Ligue 1 outfit approach him.
