Chelsea and Manchester United have reportedly approached the representatives of Ipswich Town manager Kieran McKenna.
According to a report by Manchester Evening News, Chelsea and Manchester United are keen on securing the services of Kieran McKenna this summer. The two Premier League heavyweights have contacted the representatives of the highly-rated Ipswich Town manager, with Brighton & Hove Albion also interested in the 38-year-old.
Kieran McKenna has seen his star soar since leaving his post at Manchester United to take his first job as a manager a few years ago. A midfielder during his playing career, the Northern Irishman could not last long as a footballer. So, he entered the coaching sphere early and cut his teeth at Tottenham Hotspur, Leicester City, Nottingham Forest, and Vancouver Whitecaps.
However, McKenna rose in prominence during his half-decade spell at Manchester United. The 38-year-old began his stint by coaching the under-18 team before moving to the first-team staff under Jose Mourinho. He grew in stature further during Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s tenure at Manchester United.
However, McKenna’s stock has skyrocketed since joining Ipswich Town in 2021. The former Manchester United coach has guided the Tractor Boys to successive promotions, with the club returning to the Premier League after finishing second in the EFL Championship this season. His exploits have not gone unnoticed, capturing the attention of Chelsea and Manchester United.
Chelsea might part ways with Mauricio Pochettino in the coming weeks amid unrest behind the scenes. The Argentine tactician has appeared dismayed over transfer talks and wants more say on the strategy of moves in the market. So, the Blues are scouring the market for a manager and have contacted McKenna’s representatives.
Meanwhile, Manchester United’s interest in Kieran McKenna comes in the wake of uncertainties surrounding the future of Erik ten Hag. Like Chelsea, the Red Devils have expressed their interest in the 38-year-old highly-rated manager. So, a summer return to Manchester United might be on the cards.
However, Ipswich Town will battle hard to keep hold of the Northern Irishman at Portman Road. In addition, Brighton & Hove Albion are also keen on securing McKenna’s services this summer. So, it will be interesting to see where the 38-year-old plies his trade next season.
