Official: Liverpool confirm Arne Slot appointment

Arne Slot has officially become the new Liverpool manager, with the 45-year-old reportedly signing a three-year contract with the Merseyside club.

In an official statement on the Liverpool FC website, the Reds have announced the appointment of Arne Slot as their new manager. The Dutch tactician replaces Jurgen Klopp at the helm at Anfield, signing a three-year contract with the Merseyside club.

Arne Slot has been one of the most highly-rated managers in the world in the last few years. A native of Bergentheim, the 45-year-old was a midfielder during his playing career, representing FC Zwolle, NAC Breda, Sparta Rotterdam, and PEC Zwolle before hanging up his boots over a decade ago.

The Dutchman entered the coaching sphere in 2016, taking charge of SC Cambuur. However, Slot’s stock rose during his spell with AZ Alkmaar before it skyrocketed when he managed Feyenoord between 2021 and 2024. Such was his success at Feyenoord that he guided them to two trophies and reached the UEFA Europa Conference League final in the 2021/22 season.

One of Feyenoord’s two trophies under Slot was the Eredivisie title last season, with the club beating PSV Eindhoven and Ajax to the honour. In addition, the Dutch tactician has won the Rinus Michels Award twice. He has been a hot property in the market for over 12 months, with Tottenham chasing him last year before zeroing in on Ange Postecoglou as the new manager.

Arne Slot will now take charge of Liverpool, replacing Jurgen Klopp at the helm at Anfield in a few weeks. Klopp has ended his legendary stint with the Merseyside club, with the spell producing numerous memorable moments for the German tactician and his team.

Replacing Klopp will be a tall order for Slot. However, the 45-year-old Dutch manager will be eager to prove his credentials and show he is ready to take over the mantle. While there will be many challenges, Slot will be determined to make his mark at Anfield. In addition, he has the seal of approval from Klopp, who announced the former Feyenoord manager’s arrival during his farewell speech on Sunday.

A report by The Guardian has claimed that Slot has signed a three-year contract with Liverpool. It will be interesting to see if the Dutchman can keep Liverpool in the upper echelons of English and European football in the 2024/25 season.
