Julen Lopetegui has emerged as a serious contender to replace David Moyes at West Ham United, who are also assessing other options.
According to Tutto Mercato Web, Julen Lopetegui is a serious contender to replace David Moyes at West Ham United in the summer. The 57-year-old former Real Madrid manager has been without a job since leaving Wolves last summer and has now been added to the Hammers’ shortlist before the season’s end.
Julen Lopetegui to replace David Moyes?
David Moyes might call it quits after the season ends, as he has fewer chances of signing a new deal. The Scotsman has reportedly grown frustrated with the lack of recognition at the club and the constant criticism from the majority of the supporters as he leans towards leaving his role at the end of the campaign.
West Ham have eyes on several names and saw links to Julen Lopetegui in December. The stories have since gone quiet about the 57-year-old former Real Madrid manager, although it has resurfaced, as the Spaniard is now among the top contenders to replace Moyes at the helm.
Lopetegui has been without a club since leaving his role at Wolves last summer and has seen links to many sides, including Manchester United. A switch to Old Trafford might have its merits, but it is probably unrealistic. So, West Ham does have a chance to explore their options with the 57-year-old former Real Madrid manager.
The Hammers saw surprising links to Thomas Tuchel last week, but there are significant doubts about whether the German will take over Moyes’s role. Hence, in all realistic ambitions, Lopetegui might fit in the role at West Ham, although nothing is currently agreed.
Is Ruben Amorim on West Ham’s radar?
On Monday, David Ornstein of The Athletic reported that West Ham United are considering a shock move for Ruben Amorim and might firmly chase the Portuguese manager. He also suggested a move to Liverpool looks unlikely despite heavy reporting on the Sporting CP boss being the favourite to replace Jurgen Klopp.
Hence, West Ham are likely to dash the young manager. But whether he chooses them over other suitors remains the question. While Lopetegui remains linked, the Hammers board has yet to decide who their top target is should Moyes leave in the summer.
