Manchester United will hope to see Rasmus Hojlund and Harry Maguire returning to the starting lineup against Liverpool on Sunday.
Manchester United will hope to reach the FA Cup semi-finals when they welcome Liverpool to Old Trafford in the quarter-final tie on Sunday afternoon. And Erik ten Hag has greeted positive updates on the team news front ahead of his side’s latest fixture.
Harry Maguire, Aaron Wan-Bissaka, Mason Mount, and Rasmus Hojlund have resumed full training this week. However, Altay Bayindir (muscular injury), Luke Shaw (hamstring), Lisandro Martinez (knee), Tyrell Malacia (knee), Omari Forson (knock), and Anthony Martial (groin) remain on the sidelines.
Erik ten Hag provided positive fitness updates during his pre-match press conference. The Manchester United manager said, “We had a good week. All the players you mentioned [Maguire, Wan-Bissaka and Hojlund], they returned on the pitch.”
“Partly in the start of the week and, today, we had a session that they were all training. I think [they’re going to be available]. We have, tomorrow, one session. We have to see how they recover from this tomorrow. But it looks good.”
The Manchester United manager continued, “So, Tom Heaton is back as well. Also, what was very good was Mason Mount trained all week with us, the first part of the week also partly. But then, also he had some full sessions with us, so it’s looking good.”
The fit-again Hojlund should lead the line for Manchester United against Liverpool as the Red Devils look to win the only trophy available. Hojlund’s return means Marcus Rashford will move to the left flank, with Alejandro Garnacho taking up the right-wing berth. So, Antony will find himself on the bench after getting some game time in the Danish striker’s absence.
Bruno Fernandes will reprise his usual no. 10 role, with Kobbie Mainoo and Casemiro pairing up in the double pivot. So, Scott McTominay will return to the bench after featuring in the starting lineup against Everton last weekend.
As for the defensive unit, the fit-again Maguire should return to the heart of the Manchester United defence. The Englishman will form the central defensive unit alongside Raphael Varane, with Victor Lindelof and Diogo Dalot being the full-backs. Finally, there is no looking past Andre Onana between the sticks.
Predicted Manchester United XI: Onana; Dalot, Varane, Maguire, Lindelof; Mainoo, Casemiro; Garnacho, Bruno Fernandes, Rashford; Hojlund
