Liverpool have been linked with the move for the Bayer Leverkusen manager Xabi Alonso.
Jurgen Klopp has confirmed that he will leave the club at the end of the season and Liverpool are looking at potential replacements. The 42-year-old has been identified as an alternative and Dean Jones has revealed to Give Me Sport that the former Liverpool midfielder is likely to join the club if he wins the Bundesliga title this season.
“Leverkusen made a mockery of Bayern Munich and their status within the Bundesliga last weekend.
“You typically expect the underdog to get swept away in a match like that, like how Girona were beaten by Real Madrid when they came up against them on Saturday, but it wasn’t the case at all.
“Alonso made some really bold calls in terms of team selection, and they paid off. He continues to improve every player, and they’ve made squad additions that have been absolutely perfect to make the side better.
“If Alonso does win the Bundesliga, I think he is more likely to be Liverpool’s next manager.”
Alonso is currently managing Bayer Leverkusen and he has done an exceptional job with them. The German outfit are currently on top of the Bundesliga table and they recently thrashed Bayern Munich in an important game that could have a major impact on the title race.
Alonso’s management and his ability to get the best out of players has drawn a lot of praise this season. He has shown that he is a tactically astute manager as well. There is no doubt that the 42-year-old is talented young manager with a bright future in the game and he could prove to be a quality appointment for Liverpool.
Alonso would be a good fit for Liverpool
Alonso knows the club well from his time as a player at Anfield and he should be able to settle in quickly and make an immediate impact. Replacing Jurgen Klopp will be a difficult task for any manager. The German has done exceptionally well since joining Liverpool in 2015. He has won almost every major trophy in England and he will be hoping to sign off with the elusive Europa league trophy this season.
The Spaniard has certainly shown his talent with Leverkusen this season and there is no doubt that he deserves the opportunity to manage the biggest clubs in the world. He has been linked with clubs like Barcelona, Real Madrid and Bayern Munich as well. It will be interesting to see where he ends up eventually.
The opportunity to manage his former club will be an attractive proposition for him and he will want to prove himself in the Premier League. The 42-year-old is already adored by the Liverpool fans and the appointment is likely to be met with warm reception from the fan base.
