Barcelona are optimistic about their chances of appointing Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp as their new manager starting next season.
According to a report by Spanish outlet SPORT, Barcelona are keen on having Jurgen Klopp as their next manager. With Xavi Hernandez parting ways with the club at the end of the season, the Catalan giants have started looking at their options. While signing Klopp won’t be easy, the Blaugrana are optimistic about their chances.
Klopp has been on the radar of Barcelona for quite a few years now. Even before he took the job at the Merseyside club, he was linked with a move to Spain. But things did not really work out according to plan back then.
People at the Spanish club were not expecting Xavi to end his stay at Barcelona this early. It did come as a shock to both their president Joan Laporta and sporting director Deco. The former Spanish international feels he is not the right fit to take the club forward and irrespective of whatever happens from here on, he will not continue beyond this season.
The board of directors at Barcelona will now look at the potential candidates who can take over from Xavi. There are two possibilities; either they opt for a young manager who has a promising career ahead or they can bet on someone who has done wonders in the past.
Backing someone who has proven himself seems to most convincing way to move forward irrespective of what the financial situation of the club is. And, when it comes to the experienced manager, Jurgen Klopp is Barcelona’s priority target.
Laporta is a huge fan and would love to have him in their ranks. Klopp has decided to end his nine-year-long successful stay at Liverpool at the end of the season. The German boss no longer has the energy needed to lead the Merseyside club. As a result, he has called it time and is looking to take a year off from football.
While the German manager is considering a one-year break, Barcelona are still confident that they can convince him to consider their proposal. The bigger problem is that they do not have the kind of finances needed to give Klopp the type of players he needs. The only way out is to sell first. As a result, the idea of Klopp joining Barcelona might sound interesting but it won’t be easy.
