Manchester United are plotting a move for the Brighton and Hove Albion manager Roberto De Zerbi.
A report from the Telegraph claims that Manchester United are keen on appointing the 44-year-old Italian as their next manager and they will have to battle it out with Liverpool for his services.
De Zerbi has done an impressive job at Brighton since taking over and the Seagulls have impressed with their playing style and results. Brighton are currently pushing for European qualification and it would be a massive achievement if De Zerbi managed to guide them to Europe at the end of this season.
It is no surprise that Manchester United are keen on a talented manager like him. A move to Old Trafford would be a major step up in his career and so Italian is likely to be tempted if there is a concrete proposal on the table.
Erik ten Hag has failed to get the best out of his team this season and Manchester United are struggling to secure Champions League qualification. The Red Devils are likely to show him the door at the end of the season unless the results improve drastically.
Manchester United will have to bring in a quality replacement and De Zerbi certainly as the ability to succeed at the highest level.
Meanwhile, Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp recently announced that he will leave the club at the end of the season and the Reds are now searching for potential replacements.
The 44-year-old Italian manager would be a quality appointment for Liverpool as well. It will be interesting to see which of the two clubs manage to convince the 44-year-old to take over.
Both jobs will be incredible opportunities for the Italian manager and he will be spoiled for choice if there is an approach from Manchester United and Liverpool in the coming months.
Liverpool are better placed to secure Champions League qualification and their project is far more advanced compared to Manchester United who are still going through a bit of a rebuild.
That could tip the scales in their favour and convince the Italian manager to move to Anfield instead.
