Victor Lindelof and Marcus Rashford are doubtful to take the field for Manchester United against Bayern Munich on Tuesday night.
Manchester United will look to hang on to the glimmer of hope of reaching the UEFA Champions League Round of 16 when they welcome Bayern Munich to Old Trafford on Tuesday night. And Erik ten Hag has new fitness issues to deal with ahead of his side’s latest fixture.
Victor Lindelof picked up a knock this past weekend against Bournemouth. In addition, Marcus Rashford and Anthony Martial missed training ahead of the midweek European fixture. The trio might not be available to take on Bayern Munich on Tuesday.
But there is some good news, as Casemiro and Lisandro Martinez have started some form of training. But the game against Bayern Munich has come too soon for the duo. Meanwhile, Tyrell Malacia (knee), Christian Eriksen (knee), Mason Mount (calf), Amad Diallo (knee), and Jadon Sancho remain unavailable.
Erik ten Hag spoke about the fixture pile-up during his pre-match press conference. He said, “It’s a condensed programme. We have training so, in this moment, I am not sure about everyone who is available for tomorrow but the question is over whether Victor Lindelof, whether he can make it or not. We will have to see tomorrow.”
Lindelof will miss Tuesday’s game, with Raphael Varane securing a rare start for Manchester United. The Frenchman will accompany Harry Maguire at the heart of the defence, with Luke Shaw and Aaron Wan-Bissaka being the two full-backs. Andre Onana will take his spot between the sticks.
As for the midfield unit, Kobbie Mainoo should return to the starting lineup, playing the anchor role in front of the backline. Scott McTominay and Bruno Fernandes will complete the numbers in the middle of the park, meaning Sofyan Amrabat drops to the bench.
Meanwhile, Rashford’s potential unavailability means Alejandro Garnacho should retain his spot on the left flank. Antony will feature on the right wing, with Rasmus Hojlund spearheading the attack against Bayern Munich. Facundo Pellistri should be an option on the bench.
Predicted Manchester United XI: Onana; Wan-Bissaka, Varane, Maguire, Shaw; Mainoo; Antony, Bruno Fernandes, McTominay, Garnacho; Hojlund
