Sergio Reguilon and Mason Mount will return to the Manchester United starting lineup against FC Copenhagen on Tuesday.
Manchester United will hope to continue the recent winning run and register their first win in the UEFA Champions League this season when they welcome FC Copenhagen to Old Trafford on Tuesday night. And Erik ten Hag has greeted a mixed bag of updates on the team news front ahead of his side’s latest fixture.
Casemiro is serving a suspension after seeing red against Galatasaray on Matchday 2 of the group stage. But the Brazilian midfielder might not have featured anyway due to an ankle injury he has been recovering from in the last few days.
The experienced midfielder accompanies Lisandro Martinez (foot), Aaron Wan-Bissaka (muscle injury), Tyrell Malacia (knee), Luke Shaw (muscle), Kobbie Mainoo (ankle), and Amad Diallo (knee) in the treatment room. In addition, Jadon Sancho remains unavailable due to an internal disciplinary issue.
But the good news is that Sergio Reguilon should be fit enough to feature after recovering from an illness. And Erik ten Hag provided a fitness update on the Spaniard during his pre-match press conference.
He said, “Sergio, he got ill for Saturday so he was fit. He trained all week last week and yesterday [Sunday] he was back in part training. Today he will train and then we have to assess if he is ready and game fit or if he can be involved in the squad. We have to wait for that.”
Reguilon should return to the starting lineup, taking his spot on the left flank. The Spanish defender will join Raphael Varane, Harry Maguire, and Diogo Dalot in the backline. The quartet will cover Andre Onana, who will retain his place between the sticks.
As for the midfield unit, Sofyan Amrabat and Scott McTominay should retain their spots in the double pivot in Casemiro’s absence. So, Christian Eriksen will find himself on the bench again, with an appearance in the second half likely.
Bruno Fernandes and Mason Mount will shoulder the creative burden, with the latter replacing Antony in the starting lineup. Finally, Marcus Rashford and Rasmus Hojlund should complete the offensive unit, with Antony, Anthony Martial, and Alejandro Garnacho being among the backup options.
Predicted Manchester United XI: Onana; Dalot, Varane, Maguire, Reguilon; Amrabat, McTominay; Mount, Bruno Fernandes, Rashford; Hojlund
