Liverpool are reportedly interested in appointing former RB Leipzig man Max Eberl as their new sporting director and succeed Jorg Schmadtke.
According to Christian Falk of Bild, Liverpool are reportedly interested in appointing Max Eberl as their new sporting director. The former RB Leipzig and Borussia Monchengladbach man has other suitors in Bayern Munich, which could make for an exciting chase.
Liverpool built a strong reputation in the transfer market under the stewardship of Michael Edwards. Their buying and selling improved to another level under the executive, and the trend somewhat continued under his successor, Julian Ward.
The latter did not prolong a career as Liverpool’s sporting director. The Reds appointed Jorg Schmadtke on a reported short-term deal in the summer. Sources insisted the German was on a three-month contract, which he denied.
He insisted they had a one-year agreement and would assess their situation after the first three months. Liverpool are already looking for a fresh name. It suggests things haven’t worked out with Schmadtke. The Merseysiders want his compatriot, Max Eberl, to succeed.
According to our information, FC Liverpool are interested in bringing in Max Eberl as sporting director. Ex-Wolfsburg manager Jörg Schmadtke (59) is current sports director of Jürgen Klopp's (56) club since June. Bayern is also in Talks with Eberl @BILD_Sport

Liverpool are eager to find consistency in the executive position. Since Edwards’ exit, things have appeared shaky in the background, and they want stability. Eberl is a well-known character out of Germany, having played a key role during his Gladbach days in identifying top talents.
During his career, the German transfer guru was responsible for identifying talents. Those included Granit Xhaka, Marco Reus and Marc-Andre ter Stegen while at Gladbach. Liverpool will hope he has a similar impact at Merseyside, but there are some black marks with how he exited RB Leipzig.
Sources around Leipzig insist Eberl’s conduct turned unprofessional since links to taking over at Bayern Munich. The German transfer guru remains close to Uli Hoeness. The Bavarians are also considering him to become their new sporting director.
If that remains true, Liverpool will face a tough time convincing Eberl over a move to Merseyside. The race appears open now, and any move will depend on several key factors, especially the project. Jurgen Klopp needs plenty of support to continue building his team at Liverpool. Bringing in a sporting director he can trust is a positive approach towards the future.
