Barcelona closely monitoring Michel

Michel has reportedly emerged on Barcelona’s radar, with the Blaugrana viewing the 47-year-old as a possible successor to Xavi.

According to a report by Spanish outlet SPORT, Michel is the subject of interest from Barcelona. The Catalan giants have noticed his progress with Girona in La Liga this season. And the Blaugrana will launch the offensive for the 47-year-old manager when Xavi departs from Spotify Camp Nou.

Barcelona will finally feel a sense of stability after a few years of blowing hot and cold. The Catalan giants are not out of the woods yet on the financial front, with their issues yet to end. But they are making remarkable progress on the pitch, with Xavi Hernandez steering the ship out of troubled waters.

The Blaugrana came into the 2022/23 season hoping to compete with Real Madrid in La Liga. But they have blown their bitter rivals out of the water to clinch the league title, rather comfortably so. And despite failing to reach the UEFA Champions League knockout stages, Barcelona president Joan Laporta will be elated with the progress.

They have also made some clever signings in the transfer market, with Jules Kounde and Andreas Christensen’s arrival last summer solidifying their defensive unit. And while Sergio Busquets will soon end his long-running stint with Barcelona, Laporta will back Xavi to find the right successor.

With Xavi making all the right moves bar a few incorrect calls, Barcelona fans will be optimistic of a bright future. But after suffering from appointing far-from-ideal managers in the last few years, Barcelona should be prepared for the eventuality of Xavi departing several years down the line.

Several managers, including Mikel Arteta, have thus emerged on Barcelona’s radar. And they have also set their sights on Michel. The report claims that the Catalan giants are closely monitoring the 47-year-old manager and his evolution. And the Spaniard’s work with Girona in La Liga this term has impressed Barcelona.

Barcelona will unlikely part ways with Xavi anytime soon. But Michel might become his compatriot’s successor a few years down the line. For now, the 47-year-old will be focused on going from strength to strength in La Liga with Girona. And it will be interesting to see if he remains on Barcelona’s radar in the coming years.
