Raphael Varane will return, but Marcus Rashford might be unavailable for Manchester United against Wolverhampton Wanderers on Saturday.
Manchester United will be eager to bounce back to winning ways when they host Wolverhampton Wanderers at Old Trafford on Saturday afternoon. And Erik ten Hag has a new injury concern hampering his preparations ahead of his side’s latest fixture.
Marcus Rashford is struggling with a leg injury that might rule him out of Saturday’s fixture. The English international will unlikely be fit enough to make the starting lineup. In addition, Tom Heaton (ankle), Phil Jones (knee), Lisandro Martinez (foot), Donny van de Beek (knee), and Scott McTominay (knock) remain on the sidelines.
But there is some good news, as Raphael Varane has recovered from an ankle injury. And the French defender should be available to take on Wolves on Saturday. Meanwhile, ten Hag spoke about Varane and Rashford during his pre-match press conference.
He said, “He [Rashford] has a problem, an injury on his leg, so he is a big question mark for tomorrow. But we are happy Rapha Varane is back. [Rashford] is doubtful, more than doubtful. So [there is] a big question mark.”
Meanwhile, ten Hag also addressed questions about Alejandro Garnacho and if the teenage prodigy will be available this weekend. He said, “He has one more week training, definitely. Yeah, so he is available and we have seen he can bring something extra in the team.”
Despite Garnacho’s availability, ten Hag will likely continue to ease him into the thick of the action. So Jadon Sancho should start on the left flank in Rashford’s absence. Meanwhile, Anthony Martial will spearhead the attack, with Antony featuring on the right wing.
Bruno Fernandes will reprise his usual no. 10 role, looking to pull the strings in the final third. Meanwhile, Casemiro and Christian Eriksen will continue to pair up in the double pivot in the middle of the park. So Marcel Sabitzer will be an option on the bench again.
As for the defensive unit, Varane’s availability means Luke Shaw can reprise his usual role as the left-back. And Varane will form the central defensive partnership with Victor Lindelof. Finally, Aaron Wan-Bissaka will continue on the right flank, with David de Gea featuring between the sticks.
Predicted Manchester United XI: de Gea; Wan-Bissaka, Varane, Lindelof, Shaw; Casemiro, Eriksen; Antony, Bruno Fernandes, Sancho; Martial
