Vincent Kompany leads race to become next Tottenham manager

Vincent Kompany may be interested in taking the Tottenham job as the north Londoners seek a new manager to replace Antonio Conte.

According to The Sun, Vincent Kompany has emerged as a top candidate to replace Antonio Conte at Tottenham. The north Londoners want a top manager to take the club forward from next season, with the Manchester City icon turning out a leading option for the job.

Plenty is happening at Tottenham in the last few weeks. After dropping points at Southampton, Antonio Conte embarked on a rant during the post-game press conference. The outburst has since cost him his job at the club.

Tottenham deliberated the decision and took another week to make the announcement. Conte may have left with a possible payout for the remaining few months of his contract. Assistant Cristian Stellini will take charge for the last phase of the season alongside Ryan Mason.

In addition, there is also the problem with director Fabio Paratici, who saw his 30-month ban extended to activities outside of Italy. Spurs are already looking at potential replacements for the Italian. But their major concern will be the new manager search.

While the immediate goal would be securing a top-four finish, Spurs are also actively looking ahead at the future. Their next step would involve finding a suitable replacement for Antonio Conte.

Julian Nagelsmann is linked after his stint at Bayern Munich ended abruptly. Others like Thomas Frank, Marco Silva and Luis Enrique are also mentioned as potential candidates. Now, Vincent Kompany’s name has emerged owing to the Manchester City icon’s tremendous job at Burnley.

Burnley are six points ahead of second-placed Sheffield United and racing away with the lead at the top of the Championship table. They could confirm an automatic promotion to the Premier League next week if they win their games in that period.

Despite a restricted budget, the Manchester City icon’s progress with Burnley has caught the attention of many clubs. Reports suggested Manchester City could consider him a future replacement for Pep Guardiola, which might remain the case.

For now, he is linked to the Tottenham job. And looking at Kompany’s work, a long-term project could work in his favour. The club might even consider him above the likes of Nagelsmann and others. However, the Manchester City icon has made his case with a terrific season with Burnley and could remain open for the Spurs role.

It will be a big step up in his career despite his limited experience as a football manager. The Manchester City icon was in charge of Anderlecht for two years before the Burnley job, and so far, there cannot be any questions about his ability.
