Manchester City have identified former Barcelona manager Luis Enrique as a possible replacement for Pep Guardiola if he decides to leave.
According to Javi de la Pena via MEGA, Manchester City could replace Pep Guardiola with Luis Enrique in the summer. The Manchester-based club fear that Guardiola could leave the club ahead of next season. And, they have already started to look for potential replacements. City have identified Luis Enrique as an ideal candidate to have in their ranks.
Guardiola is a serial winner who had won numerous trophies at Barcelona and Bayern Munich before joining Manchester City in the summer of 2016. And, since moving to City, he has been in charge in over 390 matches and averages 2.33 points per game.
The former Bayern Munich manager has won the Premier League four times with Manchester City. And, he has even guided them to the Champions League final which they ended up losing. As far as the ongoing season is concerned, Guardiola’s team have won 30 out of their 43 matches.
And, they are still in the race for the league as well as the Champions League title. However, people at the club fear that Guardiola could leave them after the end of the ongoing season. And, they have started to look for potential replacements.
Javi de la Peña said, “City fears that Guardiola will leave the club at the end of the season and they have already contacted Luis Enrique to replace him.”
According to Javi de la Peña, City have already held talks with former Barcelona manager Luis Enrique to see whether he is interested in taking charge of the club in the summer if in case Guardiola decides to leave.
Enrique’s last assignment was with the Spain national team. Things did not end well for the former Barcelona coach as his team had a disappointing run at the FIFA World Cup 2022. And, they decided against renewing his contract.
Enrique was in charge of Barcelona for three seasons back in the day. He led them in over 180 matches and averaged 2.41 points per game. The 52-year-old had quite a successful campaign at Barcelona where he won a lot of trophies.
The former AS Roma manager won the Champions League as well as La Liga during his time with the Catalan giants. And, his style is somewhat similar to Guardiola’s. As a result, he could be an ideal fit for Manchester City.
However, it will be interesting to whether Guardiola does end up leaving City ahead of next season. While Manchester City do have their eyes on Enrique, they will have to battle it out with quite a few clubs to get his signatures.
