Manchester United keeping tabs on Diego Simeone

Manchester United are keeping a tab on Atletico Madrid manager Diego Simeone, who is under severe pressure to deliver at the Spanish club.

According to Spanish outlet Fichajes, Manchester United might choose to bring in Diego Simeone if Erik ten Hag fails to fulfil the expectations. The Dutch manager only arrived this summer and has done a commendable job to put the Red Devils on par with the likes of Chelsea and Liverpool.

In the midst of some off-pitch turmoil, Manchester United have managed to keep their shape intact with an excellent brand of football. Following their first two defeats, there had been murmurs regarding the selection of the former Ajax manager. But since then, he has let his influence take up the command at the club.

Wins over Liverpool, Arsenal and Tottenham Hotspur have made a statement for a team that has been searching for a definite style of play. Ten Hag has managed to provide them with the necessary bedrock, which has been missing for quite a while.

The new Manchester United manager has also been sufficiently backed by the board as players like Lisandro Martinez, Casemiro, Christian Eriksen and Antony have played their part in the Red Devils’ revival this season.

Manchester United are currently in 5th place in the Premier League table and are also scheduled to play a UEFA Europa League knockout playoff with Barcelona. The hierarchy won’t lose their trust so early in the manager and will at least wait until the end of the season to reach a decision.

Meanwhile, Diego Simeone is facing a real threat regarding his future at Atletico Madrid as the Rojiblancos are having a tough time on the pitch. They are already left behind in the title race in La Liga and have also crashed out of the UEFA Champions League group stage.

The management is not ready to hand the 52-year-old a cautionary note. But if things do not improve after the World Cup, Atletico Madrid might hunt for a new manager. His ultra-defensive method might not be very eye pleasing, but it has been pretty effective. And it remains to be seen whether Manchester United can take a hit to hand over the reign to the Argentine manager in near future.
