Antonio Conte’s future has been a topic of discussion for months, but his assistant believes that the Italian is happy at Tottenham.
As quoted by London Evening Standard, Cristian Stellini has revealed that Tottenham manager Antonio Conte is happy at the north London club and could stay for the long haul. Stellini also rubbished suggestions that Conte is a short-term manager and looks for a new opportunity every now and then.
Stellini said, “It is an unfair suggestion [to label him as a short-term coach]. He pushes himself at a level so high in his work. He is so passionate. At every club he takes the club in one position and he increases the level every time.”
“Now we are working well. The team increases, all the players improve themselves and we are happy. There is no problem. We are happy to be here and we feel good.”
The Italian manager has a contract with Tottenham until the end of the season, and he has been linked with a return to Juventus at the end of the season. Meanwhile, Spurs, for their part, have looked at a few managers to replace Conte.
Juventus are reportedly looking to replace Massimiliano Allegri after a dismal start to the campaign. Conte was hugely successful during his time at the Turin club, and it would be a coup for the Bianconeri if they managed to bring him back.
Conte has been a sensational appointment for Tottenham so far and he has built an impressive squad at the London club. His departure would be a major blow for the Londoners. It remains to be seen whether Spurs can convince Conte to sign an extension with them.
The report from Evening Standard claims that the Premier League club plan to open talks with their manager regarding a contract extension soon. Stellini’s comments will certainly come as a boost for the London club and their fans.
Conte is an ambitious manager, and he will want to make his mark at Spurs before pursuing a new adventure. It seems unlikely that he will abandon the Tottenham project midway. Also, Spurs have been very supportive of their manager so far. They have backed him heavily in the transfer market.
That said, Tottenham still need a couple of quality signings in order to get to the level where they can compete with clubs like Manchester City. If not, Antonio Conte might leave, and Spurs might have to follow through with their interest in Roger Schmidt and others.
