Liverpool hopeful of agreeing bumper new deal with Mohamed Salah

Liverpool remain hopeful that key forward Mohamed Salah will pen fresh terms to stay on at Anfield beyond 2023.

According to Football Insider, Premier League giants Liverpool are hopeful that Mohamed Salah will pen new terms to stay on at Anfield for the foreseeable future.

The Egyptian has taken his game up several notches since moving to Merseyside in 2017. Today, he is amongst the best players in world football and has shown few signs of slowing down. At 29, Salah is at the peak of his powers and still has much to offer in the years to come.

Salah’s contract with Liverpool expires in the summer of 2023, and the club have been unable to convince him to sign a new deal. Thankfully for Liverpool fans everywhere, club owners Fenway Sports Group are now optimistic that an amicable resolution can be achieved.

The Americans believe that Salah will drop his wage demands and accept a new deal to keep him at Liverpool. It will, however, be mutually beneficial as he will still land himself a lucrative contract in the process.

A major reason for Liverpool’s optimism is the lack of teams who can break the bank to land the Egyptian this summer. Neither Real Madrid nor Barcelona can splash the cash freely, despite the latter’s strong interest, while Chelsea have issues of their own.

Paris Saint-Germain, who look set to lose Kylian Mbappe this summer, and Manchester City, who are also pursuing Erling Haaland, could theoretically make a punt for the 29-year-old’s services. Whether they will, however, remains to be seen.

Salah, for his part, is also keen to stay on at Merseyside. However, his agent Ramy Abbas Issa continues to court controversy with his public response to Jurgen Klopp’s comments on social media. He believes the Egyptian is deserving of the £500,000-a-week deal, given his exploits for Liverpool.

Salah and Liverpool are a match made in heaven, with both sides benefitting from the relationship. Salah has thrived under the guidance of Klopp, while Liverpool have also made use of his goals to scale greater heights.

Not many players who have left Liverpool on their terms have thrived in recent years. Should Salah stay on at Anfield, he will not just land himself a lucrative offer but also cement his place as a club legend. It remains to be seen if that will be enough to change his mind, or he would rather have a huge payday elsewhere instead.
