Transfer News: Everton defender Yerry Mina offered to Flamengo

Everton are open to letting Yerry Mina leave the club, with the defender being offered to Brazilian side Flamengo.

According to Torcedores, as relayed by Sport Witness, Everton defender Yerry Mina has been offered to Flamengo, with the Brazilian window open until mid-April. The Colombian is out of favour under new manager Frank Lampard, who is ready to let him leave the club if a reasonable offer comes in.

Yerry Mina has proved to be another expensive but ineffective purchase from the Farhad Moshiri regime. When he arrived from Barcelona, the Colombian was expected to strengthen the Toffees backline given his experience at one of Europe’s biggest clubs.

Instead, the centre-back has proven to be an average buy at best and has not really improved the Everton defence. He has also had several injury issues which has led to him missing many games – especially this season, with Mina featuring in just ten Premier League matches.

New manager Frank Lampard does not rate him and does not see him contributing much to the club’s future. The defender has a contract until 2023, which could prompt the club to consider offers in the summer. However, there is already interest from Flamengo, who could make an early approach for the Colombian.

Flamengo would like to bring in the Everton defender to shore up their backline and pair him with either David Luiz or Rodrigo Caio. They are ready to make a loan offer with an option to buy, which could suit the Toffees, who are willing to take his wages off their books.

Everton could reportedly demand €2 million in loan fees in addition to a reasonable purchase clause. However, the Merseysiders also seek 50% of any future sale, and if Flamengo agree, a deal could be struck imminently.

However, a decision will also depend on Mina, who may want to continue playing in Europe. The Colombian’s reputation will command offers from many European clubs, which could make it tricky for Flamengo to persuade the centre-back to move to Brazil.

Newcastle United were keen on signing the 27-year-old in January, as they could not get their primary defensive targets. However, they might have cooled their interest, and could chase some top defenders in the next window.

Moreover, Mina could earn significantly more staying put in Europe or in the Premier League compared to Brazil. It remains to be seen if Flamengo agree a deal with Everton and the player. As things stand, the Toffees are open to letting him leave.
