Transfer News: Real Madrid keeping tabs on Max Aarons

Real Madrid are reportedly keeping tabs on the development of Norwich City full-back Max Aarons as they scour the market for a new right-back.

According to Defensa Central, Real Madrid are on the lookout for a new right-back to compete with and eventually replace incumbent Dani Carvajal. The Spanish capital outfit have identified several targets to strengthen the position, with Norwich City youngster Max Aarons also one among them.

Aarons came through the ranks at Norwich and made his breakthrough in 2018/19, helping the team to promotion to the Premier League. The Englishman impressed in his maiden campaign in the top-flight and was one of the Canaries’ standout players even though they could not secure safety from relegation.

Back in the second division, Aarons again made an impression last season as Norwich again made their way back to the Premier League. He has not been at his best in the ongoing campaign, producing just one assist from 23 matches in all competitions. Nevertheless, the youngster’s stock remains high, with several Premier League clubs expressing an interest in him in the recent past.

Now, one of the biggest clubs in the world, Real Madrid, have also shown a liking towards the 22-year-old and are tracking his progress at Norwich City.

Real Madrid have Dani Carvajal as their starting right-back currently. But the Spaniard has been bogged down by injury issues over the past eighteen months or so. Backup option Lucas Vazquez has done a decent job when needed, but he remains a makeshift solution, and the club are looking for a more long-term fix to the issue.

As a result, Los Blancos have been linked with several right-backs in recent weeks, with Villarreal’s Juan Foyth emerging as an option, along with Pedro Porro, who is on loan at FC Porto from Manchester City. Now, Aarons, too, has popped up on their radar as per the report, with the current La Liga leaders closely monitoring his development at Norwich.

Aarons is a modern-day full-back who can be a good long-term prospect for Real Madrid if groomed properly. With his contract running until the summer of 2024, Norwich are likely to demand a significant sum for his signing in the summer. It will be interesting to see if the Merengues decide to act on their interest in the Englishman or look at more established options.
