Liverpool are interested in Atletico Colon sensation Facundo Farias heading into the summer transfer window.
Speaking to TNT Sports (h/t The Sun), Martin Sendoa, the agent of Facundo Farias, has revealed that Premier League giants Liverpool are keeping tabs on the 19-year-old Argentine sensation.
The attacking midfielder is making a name for himself at Atletico Colon and has attracted the attention of Argentine superclub Boca Juniors. A versatile player, he has often started out front and is equally capable of doing a job out wide. Farias has made 48 appearances for Atletico, scoring eight goals and assisting seven more.
At 19, he has decent experience but is also young enough to take his game to the next level. A move to a bigger club beckons, and it could prove to be a straight tussle between Boca Juniors and Liverpool for his services.
Liverpool have re-emerged as a world power in the sport, and Jurgen Klopp does not appear to be content with his plaudits. The Reds are slowly yet steadily adding young blood to their ranks as they look to rebuild an ageing core of elite players.
The Merseysiders have brought in players like Harvey Elliott, Ibrahima Konate and Diogo Jota in recent windows. The recent signing of Luis Diaz coupled with the interest shown in Fabio Carvalho indicates that Liverpool are seeking young, hungry players who can provide the nexus for the club’s next great team.
At 19, Farias certainly is at the apt age to take the next step in his career. Klopp has shown a penchant to get the best out of raw talent, and the Argentine could be in line to experience just that. An excellent dribbler who also has a sharp eye for a pass, Farias has the potential to become a leading player in the years to come.
His ability to feature anywhere along the frontline will be a boon for Klopp, who often deploys his attack in a free-flowing system. Farias’ ability to occupy different roles will help him adapt to the all-action approach employed at Anfield.
Sendoa revealed that he is waiting for a call from Liverpool, who are interested in signing Farias. Given how quietly the Reds go about their business, it will be no surprise if they are busy behind the scenes making the deal happen. Farias’s agent has, however, curiously refused to shut the door on a move to Boca. He mentioned how Boca have not reached out for his client’s services just yet.
Whether this is the agent using Liverpool’s name to force Boca’s hand remains to be seen. Whether the Reds will eventually make a move or Boca will be spooked enough to pre-empt them remains to be seen.
