Transfer News: Arsenal set to complete the signing of Matt Turner

Arsenal have reportedly agreed on a deal with New England Revolution for goalkeeper Matt Turner, with the USMNT star set to arrive in the summer.

According to Football London, Arsenal have reportedly agreed on a deal for goalkeeper Matt Turner, who could join the north London side in the summer. The Gunners will pay £4.5 million initially, with the total fee rising to £7.5 million through bonuses.

As Mikel Arteta and Edu Gaspar set to continue their rebuild process, Arsenal have already started laying the groundwork for next summer’s transfer window. The north London side are expected to embark upon another spending spree to bring in new players to add to the existing squad.

The Gunners successfully trimmed their squad in the January window, with several unwanted stars leaving the club and helping them slash the wage bill. The biggest departure was that of Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, who left the club and joined Barcelona on a free transfer.

With plenty of wages to allocate and enough space in the squad to bring in new players, the Gunners are expected to sign at least four or five new players. A midfielder, two strikers, and a right-back are needed, while they may also want a backup goalkeeper to Aaron Ramsdale. Bernd Leno is tipped to leave the club next summer and the German international will need replacing.

While the Gunners were heavily criticised for not signing suitable players in the January window, they agreed on deals in principle for goalkeeper Matt Turner and defender Auston Trusty.

Already a full USMNT international, Turner will move to the Emirates in the summer as he finishes the season with the New England Revolution. The 27-year-old will be the replacement Arsenal seek for Leno, who remains open to joining Newcastle United in the summer if the Magpies avoid relegation.

The agreement between the two clubs will see Arsenal part with £4.5 million, although the final fee could rise to £7.5 million depending on bonuses. Turner is believed to have signed a four-year contract with an option of extending by another twelve months. The transfer is as good as complete subject to a medical and work permit in the summer.
