Transfer News: Leicester City interested in Josip Juranovic

Leicester City are interested in Celtic star Josip Juranovic, as Brendan Rodgers reportedly seeks a new option for the right-back position.

According to Fabrizio Romano on the Here We Go podcast, Leicester City are pursuing Josip Juranovic, despite the Croatian only joining Celtic in the previous summer window. Brendan Rodgers is reportedly scouring the market for a new right-back and is looking at his former employers for a solution.

Leicester City have been average this season despite some impressive performances on occasion. The Foxes’ problems this season have come from instability at the back due to their defenders’ sub-par performances, while injuries have not been kind to them either.

While central defence is a major concern, Leicester have also had problems at right-back. James Justin has only recently returned from a lengthy injury layoff and is yet to get back into his groove. Ricardo Pereira has missed most games this season with fitness issues as well. While Timothy Castagne has done a fair job until now, it would not be surprising if Rodgers looks for a new option in the summer.

They have been linked with a few names, including Ghana star Abdul Mumin, who can play at right-back despite being a centre-back. The latest name on their list is Josip Juranovic, who only joined Celtic in the previous summer window. The right-back has become a key player for the Scottish heavyweights, making 35 appearances in all competitions this season.

The Croatian has also chipped in with five goals and two assists in all competitions, which have been valuable to the Hoops. With a contract until 2026, the 26-year-old will cost a decent amount if Leicester come knocking for the right-back before next season.

Meanwhile, Rodgers is also chasing several key players in different positions, with Leicester looking at versatile stars capable of playing in multiple positions. Andrea Cambiaso is one such target who can play in both full-back slots despite predominantly being a left-back.

Leicester could also look to move on a few of their existing stars in the position, such as Pereira, and bring in a player of Juranovic’s quality as a replacement. It remains to be seen if the Foxes are serious about the Celtic defender and how much they might be willing to spend on the 26-year-old Croatian star in the summer window.
