AC Milan and Inter Milan are reportedly interested in signing Real Madrid striker Luka Jovic, who has no future at the Santiago Bernabeu.
According to Fichajes, Italian heavyweights AC Milan and Inter Milan are eyeing a move for Real Madrid forward Luka Jovic, who is likely to depart in the summer transfer window.
Jovic arrived at Real Madrid in the summer of 2019 from Eintracht Frankfurt in a big-money deal worth €60 million but has struggled to live up to the expectations that came with the price tag. The 24-year-old has featured just 47 times in over two years at the club, managing a paltry return of just three goals and four assists.
Jovic spent the second half of last season on loan at his former stomping ground Eintracht Frankfurt but failed to recapture his form. Since returning this season, he has struggled for game-time at the Bernabeu, with Carlo Ancelotti opting not to rotate star man Karim Benzema much.
Jovic has not done too well when given a chance, as shown by his tally of one goal and two assists in 15 matches. As a result, the Real Madrid boss opted to go in with Marco Asensio as his preferred choice in the false-nine role over Jovic in the recent Copa del Rey clash against Athletic Bilbao when Benzema was out with an injury.
It could be the final nail in the coffin for Jovic’s career at Real Madrid, and an exit in the summer looks very much possible. As per the Fichajes report, the Serbian international could be heading to Italy when the season is over, with both AC Milan and Inter Milan holding an interest in acquiring his services.
AC Milan need to revamp their ageing strikeforce that consists of Zlatan Ibrahimovic and Olivier Giroud. While the veteran pair are still capable of contributing valuable goals, the Rossoneri need to add a younger option to their roster who can take over the mantle of the chief goalscorer in the long run. It has led to them eyeing a move for Luka Jovic, while they are also battling Chelsea for Andrea Belotti.
However, Milan will face competition from their neighbours and arch-rivals Inter in pursuit of the Real Madrid striker. The Nerazzurri are also in the market for a new centre-forward as Edin Dzeko will soon be turning 37 years old, while Alexis Sanchez is likely to depart at the end of the season. With Joaquin Correa yet to make much of an impact since arriving in the summer, signing a new forward makes sense.
It remains to be seen who among the two Serie A giants comes out on top in this battle. But as things stand, a summer exit from Real Madrid looks increasingly likely for Luka Jovic.
