Barcelona have reportedly been offered the chance to sign Alvaro Morata, with the 29-year-old Spanish international keen on joining the Blaugrana.
According to a report by Spanish publication SPORT, Alvaro Morata is keen on joining Barcelona despite his failed move in the January transfer window. The 29-year-old Spanish international has offered himself to the Blaugrana and hopes to end his stint with Atletico Madrid in the summer.
Alvaro Morata is currently in his second stint with Juventus, having rejoined the club on loan from Atletico Madrid in September 2020. But the Spaniard has struggled to perform consistently, with goals coming at a premium for him in the last 18 months.
The 29-year-old has a tally of eight goals and five assists in 29 appearances across all competitions in the ongoing season. But even though the player has blown hot and cold at Juventus, Massimiliano Allegri was determined to keep hold of him beyond the January transfer window. As for Morata, he is keen on sealing a belated transfer to Barcelona.
Barcelona had been keen on signing Morata in the January transfer window, with talks even reaching an advanced stage at one point. But a move failed to materialise in the end, even though Juventus secured the services of Dusan Vlahovic from Fiorentina.
After failing to land Morata, Barcelona had to scramble around for an alternative, with Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang officially joining the club after the January transfer window ended. But despite Aubameyang’s arrival, Barcelona will likely enter the transfer market for a high profile striker in the summer transfer window, with Martin Braithwaite and Luuk de Jong expected to depart Camp Nou.
Morata is hoping that he can join Barcelona in the summer transfer window, offering his services to the club. The 29-year-old Spanish international is hoping that Atletico Madrid will allow him to leave for free ahead of the 2022/23 season, enabling Barcelona to sign him without paying anything.
But Barcelona’s priority for the summer transfer window could be the acquisition of Borussia Dortmund striker Erling Haaland, with talks reportedly underway already. Morata could be left in the lurch in all this, especially because he could become surplus to requirements at Atletico Madrid.
