Transfer News: Tottenham interested in Alexander Nubel

Tottenham Hotspur are reportedly planning a summer swoop for Bayern Munich ace Alexander Nubel, who is currently on loan at AS Monaco.

According to Goal, Tottenham Hotspur have expressed an interest in Alexander Nubel. The Bayern Munich goalkeeper has made a solid impression during his time on loan as AS Monaco so far, with the Premier League giants keeping a close eye on his development in the French top flight.

Nubel had initially joined Monaco on a two-year loan deal last summer. However, Bayern have the option to cut the deal short and recall him at the end of the season, giving them the opportunity to either bring him back to the first-team setup or ship him elsewhere on a permanent deal.

Tottenham’s interest in the goalkeeper stems from his excellent season at Monaco so far. After joining the club on loan, the German has been a beneficiary of Benjamin Lecomte’s move to Atletico Madrid, essentially becoming the club’s first-choice goalkeeper. He has already featured in 22 league matches this term, keeping five clean sheets.

During his time in the French top flight so far, Nubel has made a solid impression with his quick reflexes and shot-stopping abilities. He has notably attained a career-high save percentage rate of 72%, making him one of the best performing keepers in Ligue 1.

The German’s success has not gone unnoticed, with Tottenham eyeing a swoop in the summer transfer window. It appears the Lilywhites are targeting the former Schalke starlet as a direct successor for Hugo Lloris. While the Frenchman recently extended his contract, the fact that he is in the twilight of his illustrious career will not be lost on Tottenham.

Tottenham have been linked with a move for a few other goalkeepers as well, including Jordan Pickford. But the Everton ace is set to cost a fortune given his status as the England number one. The same can be said for any other Premier League-based keepers, potentially forcing Spurs to bank on options from the foreign leagues.

Alexander Nubel, to that end, could be an ideal option. The Bayern Munich goalkeeper has immense potential and is slowly starting to live up to his expectations at Monaco. And at the age of just 25, the German has time on his side, making him an excellent long-term investment for Tottenham for their goalkeeping department.
