Transfer News: Newcastle United eyeing late loan move for Hamza Choudhury

Newcastle United are reportedly planning a fresh approach for Leicester City’s Hamza Choudhury, who may be unhappy at the King Power Stadium.

According to the Daily Mail, Hamza Choudhury is a target for Newcastle United this month, and the Magpies could make a late move for the 24-year-old Leicester City midfielder.

Hamza Choudhury may never realise his full potential at Leicester City as he is never consistently picked in the starting lineup. Brendan Rodgers has always relied on the midfielder to be an option off the bench.

Last summer, the Foxes were considering selling the 24-year-old midfielder, with many Premier League clubs including Newcastle United showing interest back then. Leicester did sign Boubakary Soumare from Lille, which might have made it easier to let Choudhury leave, but he stayed put.

He might currently be seen playing regularly in the side, but that is due to the absence of key midfielders who are either injured or away at the Africa Cup of Nations. Once they return, Choudhury will probably have a backup role again, fueling the player’s frustration even more.

The summer interest from Newcastle may have cooled down a bit, but there is every chance for the Magpies to return with an offer late in the current window. While he may not be a priority target for the relegation battlers, he could certainly be a utility arrival to bolster their options in the midfield.

Their primary objective is to strengthen their defensive ranks, with several players linked with a move. A central midfielder was considered essential at the start of January, but the chase for a defender keeps dragging on. As we approach the end of January, Newcastle could go in for a midfielder if their other objectives are achieved.

If they still have time late in the window, Newcastle might consider making an approach for someone like Choudhury. While his style and Premier League experience could be useful for any side, the Magpies may surely keep him on the shortlist of backup options.

Meanwhile, Leicester may not be opposed to a loan deal, as they are eager to free up space for potential new arrivals in their squad. Moreover, Choudhury’s contract ends in 18 months, and the former Premier League champions might feel this is the perfect time to cash in.

It remains to be seen if the Magpies come up with an offer and if Leicester are willing to loan out the midfielder. The 24-year-old could be a good option for Newcastle to boost their chances amid their relegation battle.
