Manchester United have reportedly opened preliminary talks with RB Leipzig for Amadou Haidara, as they look to sign the midfielder this month.
According to Jonathan Shrager, Manchester United have been in preliminary discussions with RB Leipzig over the transfer of Amadou Haidara. With less than half a month left to conclude deals, the Red Devils might be looking to do some business before the deadline.
Manchester United’s season took a new turn after they scrambled another opportunity to close in on the top four places. Ralf Rangnick’s men squandered a two-goal lead to let Aston Villa come back and snatch a draw, which dealt a blow to their Champions League hopes for next season.
That game was their third one in hand over rivals ahead of them on the table. Those matches, considered winnable for Manchester United’s quality, ended in two draws and one defeat. Many believe that strengthening in this transfer window could boost their chances, and the club is looking at potential deals.
A new midfielder has been talked up since the end of December, with Manchester United reportedly hot on the trails of Denis Zakaria. The Borussia Monchengladbach star will be a free agent in June, and the Red Devils were marked to make a cut-price move this month.
Whilst talks are in preliminary stages, I am told that there is now an open dialogue between #MUFC and RB Leipzig regarding Amadou Haidara

However, another name has emerged as a potential incoming, with Amadou Haidara of RB Leipzig linked with a move. The first links appeared in the early days of Rangnick’s reign at Manchester United, especially due to the German manager’s close ties with the Bundesliga club.
Haidara, a central midfielder by trade, is someone seen as an upgrade to current options in this Manchester United midfield. The 23-year-old Leipzig star could be a good option to stabilise the central areas and help the team gain control in games.
Manchester United were told to pay £32 million if they wish to sign him this month. The Premier League heavyweights were previously trying to understand if they could lower the asking price, and the Bundesliga outfit might have cleared the terms before they entered talks.
As Jonathan Shrager suggests, Manchester United have opened preliminary talks to understand Leipzig’s demands, their payment structures as well as the contract Haidara might ask for to complete a move. The 23-year-old midfielder is currently with Mali at the Africa Cup of Nations and could be available to sign the paperwork at the end of the month.
A move could be of good value to all three parties involved as Haidara could be a good piece of business to shore up Manchester United’s midfield. The club will be hoping to wrap up this move as soon as possible and then probably move on to bringing in additional players if required.
