Transfer News: PSG battle Barcelona in Tanguy Ndombele chase

Barcelona and Paris Saint-Germain are reportedly in a transfer battle to sign Tanguy Ndombele, valued at €30 million by Tottenham Hotspur.

According to a report by Catalan outlet El Nacional, Barcelona and Paris Saint-Germain are in contention to sign Tanguy Ndombele from Tottenham Hotspur in the January transfer window. The French midfielder is valued at €30 million by Tottenham Hotspur.

Tanguy Ndombele joined Tottenham Hotspur from Lyon in July 2019 and has since endured a topsy turvy ride at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium. The 25-year-old has fallen out of favour under each manager who has been in charge of the club in the last two and a half years, struggling to find stability at the club.

To date, the Frenchman has made 91 appearances for Tottenham, chipping in with ten goals and nine assists in the process. Ndombele is currently a bit-part player for Spurs, with Antonio Conte not fancying him much. But despite his struggles at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, the player remains highly sought-after, with Barcelona and Paris Saint-Germain keen on signing him.

The interest from Barcelona could be stemming from the uncertainty surrounding Frenkie de Jong. The Dutch international remains a key player for the Blaugrana, but their financial woes could force them to cash in on the youngster, as he is their most prized commodity.

Selling de Jong will also prompt Barcelona to enter the transfer market for a cost-effective replacement, bringing Ndombele into the picture. But Barcelona will have to fend off competition from PSG in the race to sign the 25-year-old from Tottenham Hotspur this month.

PSG might have to scour the market to refresh Mauricio Pochettino’s midfield options, as Ander Herrera and Idrissa Gueye are well into their thirties, while Marco Verratti has battled a spate of injuries of late. Ndombele is thus a viable target for PSG, although AS Roma might also be rivalling them and Barcelona for the Frenchman, with former Tottenham boss Jose Mourinho keen on a reunion.

Tottenham will not stand in Ndombele’s ways, as they are ready to offload him this month. But Spurs will demand around €30 million to part with the 25-year-old, which might be an issue for Barcelona, who are considering a loan move for him. So, PSG could take the lead in the race to sign the Tottenham outcast, although it will be interesting to see if other suitors emerge in the race to sign him.
