Atletico Madrid are reportedly lining up a summer move for Giovani Lo Celso, with Tottenham actively looking to offload the Argentine midfielder.
According to Fichajes, Giovani Lo Celso could be back in La Liga in the summer transfer window, with Atletico Madrid emerging as contenders for the Argentine midfielder. His time at Tottenham may be coming to an end, with the north London club actively looking to offload him.
It is not easy to impress Antonio Conte and become a regular in the Italian tactician’s teams. Giovani Lo Celso is one of the current Tottenham stars to find that out the hard way. The Argentine international has seemed out of touch with his football and has fallen out of the manager’s plans.
Despite high hopes for the midfielder since his arrival in north London, Lo Celso has never really been convincing. After converting his initial loan move into a permanent deal, the Argentine has found himself on the fringes of the first team and is barely featuring for Spurs.
Conte likes to play in a specific style, and there seems to be no place for the 25-year-old, who wants to position himself in midfield with a tendency to advance from his area. There is certainly no room for a player in his mould at Tottenham, with Conte reportedly instructing the club to offload the former Real Betis star, either as part of a swap deal or permanently.
Real Betis were recently mentioned as a possible destination for Lo Celso, who might be angling for a move back to La Liga at the next available opportunity. However, Atletico Madrid are also reportedly keeping tabs on him, with Diego Simeone eyeing a summer move for the Tottenham midfielder.
Despite having several players in Lo Celso’s mould at the club, including summer arrival Rodrigo De Paul, Simeone would like to have the option of having the Tottenham midfielder at his disposal. Moreover, the north Londoners are prepared to slash nearly half the price they paid Betis, meaning the midfielder could be available for around £15 million.
Lo Celso certainly fits Simeone’s style and is more suited for the style of football in La Liga than the Premier League, where he has clearly struggled. With Tottenham actively looking to sell Lo Celso, a move to Atletico Madrid could be one that could allow him to play regularly. Moreover, he could reignite the dream of representing Argentina at next year’s World Cup in Qatar.
