Transfer News: Liverpool ready €5 million per year contract offer for Gavi

Liverpool are reportedly readying a contract worth €5 million per year as they look to lure Barcelona midfield sensation Gavi to Anfield.

According to a report from El Nacional, Liverpool are strongly interested in Barcelona teenage prodigy Gavi and are willing to hand him a bumper contract to lure him away from Camp Nou.

Gavi is enjoying a sensational breakthrough campaign with Barcelona. After being promoted to the first team due to injury problems in the squad, the 17-year-old grabbed his opportunity with both hands and quickly became a key part of the senior setup. The teenager has featured 22 times for the Blaugrana in all competitions, scoring one goal and registering three assists.

Gavi’s rise to prominence was recognised by Spain manager Luis Enrique, who handed the youngster his international debut last October. The youngster’s exploits in his breakthrough campaign have led to interest from several top clubs in Europe, including Liverpool, who are keen on snapping up the midfield prodigy.

Liverpool did not sign a replacement for Georginio Wijnaldum last summer. At the same time, Jurgen Klopp will also need to start preparing for the future, considering that James Milner, Jordan Henderson and Thiago Alcantara are all into their thirties. The German tactician will need to refresh his options in the middle of the park in the near future.

It has led to links with several midfielders such as Real Madrid’s Federico Valverde and Denis Zakaria of Borussia Monchengladbach, who will be a free agent in the summer. And Gavi is also very much on the agenda for the Premier League giants.

The teenage prodigy’s current contract with Barcelona expires in eighteen months and comes with a release clause of €50 million. The Catalans are working on a new deal for their academy graduate as they look to secure his long-term future, while also bumping up his release clause amount.

Talks are progressing slowly though, due to the club’s need to offload some of their unwanted players to create room on the wage bill. Liverpool are hoping to capitalise on the situation by triggering his exit clause. At the same time, they are also readying a contract offer worth €5 million a year, which would be 50 times what he currently earns at Barcelona.

PSG are also in the hunt for his signing and are willing to hand Gavi a €6 million per year deal, while Barcelona continue to work on extending his contract. Liverpool will have their task cut out to secure the signing of the 17-year-old, whose first preference would be to continue at Camp Nou.
