Liverpool are ready to rival Eintracht Frankfurt and AC Milan in the pursuit of Nantes forward Randal Kolo Muani.
According to SportBild, Liverpool have entered the race to sign Randal Kolo Muani. The Nantes attacker is rated highly by Jurgen Klopp as he continues his search for a new striker in this ongoing January transfer window. Kolo Muani’s current contract in France expires at the end of the season, with the player currently evaluating his options.
Along with Liverpool, the forward is being targeted by AC Milan and Eintracht Frankfurt. The German club have been advised as the ideal destination for the Nantes star, but the Eagles haven’t been able to meet the player’s price tag. Moreover, Kolo Muani’s family believes the striker will have the chance to earn a more lucrative deal if he joins Liverpool or Milan.
A product of the Nantes youth academy, Kolo Muani has been one of the club’s standout players in recent years. He made his professional breakthrough last season, scoring nine goals while supplying the same number of assists in 37 matches. His contributions in front of goal were critical in helping Nantes remain in the top-flight, with the forward even scoring in the relegation playoff against Toulouse.
This season, the 23-year-old has elevated his goalscoring abilities, having netted seven times in 18 matches. His improved tally in front of goal has helped Nantes remain in the top half of the league table. But it has attracted interest from Europe, with Liverpool, in particular, keen on his services.
The Reds are in the market for a new striker this January amid concerns over the long term future of Mohamed Salah, Roberto Firmino and Sadio Mane. All of their contracts expire within the next 18 months, with Mane already emerging as a potential target for Real Madrid.
Additionally, both Mane and Salah are unavailable at the moment due to the upcoming Africa Cup of Nations. They have been ruled out for at least the remainder of January, giving Klopp a major selection dilemma.
In light of their absences, Liverpool are tipped to sign Luis Diaz in this January transfer window. And in Kolo Muani, Klopp could find himself another reliable goalscoring alternative for Diogo Jota and Firmino.
The Frenchman has shown a lot of promise with his performances in Ligue 1, and at the age of just 23, he could be a smart long-term investment for the club, even emerging as a potential replacement for Divock Origi. The Belgian is expected to leave Anfield in January amid interest from Lazio, thus accentuating the need for someone like Randal Kolo Muani.
