Transfer News: Marseille interested in signing Sead Kolasinac

Marseille are interested in yet another Arsenal star as Sead Kolasinac emerges as a transfer target in the January window.

According to the Daily Mail, Marseille are interested in Sead Kolasinac in January, with Arsenal open to his departure in the current window. If the move materialises, he could become the third Arsenal player to join the French giants after William Saliba and Matteo Guendouzi made their loan moves last summer.

The Bosnian, who was one of Arsene Wenger’s last signings for Arsenal, has fallen down the pecking order despite a bright start to his career at the Emirates. Kolasinac has been unwanted at the club for at least 18 months now, with the Gunners allowing him to join Schalke on loan last January.

Unable to find a reasonable buyer for the player heading into the last year of his deal, Arsenal might be inclined to take any cut-price offer that comes their way for the Bosnian. The signing of Kieran Tierney two years ago and the arrival of Nuno Tavares in the summer has pushed Kolasinac further down the pecking order.

He currently remains out with an ankle injury sustained in the last international break, although he is expected to return imminently. There is significant interest from clubs in the Premier League such as Watford, who are keen to fuel up ahead of a relegation battle.

There is also interest from Bayer Leverkusen in Germany, who are willing to make an offer for the left-back to ward off intense interest from other clubs in the summer. Kolasinac is naturally comfortable in Germany as he has spent a major chunk of his career there.

The latest interest now comes from Marseille, who seem to have developed a good relationship with Arsenal over the previous summer window. The French giants took two of the Gunners’ young French stars in Matteo Guendouzi and William Saliba on loan, although it is the midfielder they might end up retaining.

They might be ready to make a cut-price offer for Kolasinac in the January window before he becomes a free agent in the summer. The presence of former teammates could make things a bit more comfortable in new surroundings for the Bosnian, who is certainly out of favour at the Emirates.

Kolasinac has made only four appearances across all competitions this term, as the Gunners have managed to keep their squad relatively injury-free this season. However, it remains to be seen if the left-back moves across to France or elsewhere in January, or waits to leave as a free agent in the summer.
