Transfer News: West Ham United join Tottenham in Adama Traore pursuit

West Ham are ready to rival Tottenham Hotspur in the race to sign Wolves forward Adama Traore this month.

According to The Telegraph, West Ham are among the clubs in contention to sign Adama Traore. The explosive forward could leave the Molineux in January, with Wolves considering a sale that would enable them to fund moves for newer targets. It has put West Ham on red alert, although they are joined by Tottenham in the pursuit of the attacker.

Adama’s current contract at Wolves expires in 2023, and the club has found very little luck in convincing the player to sign an extension. As a result, they could be open to offloading the Spaniard in January, with the club reportedly valuing their star at around £20 million.

It appears to be quite a modest figure for a player who has established himself as one of the most interesting wingers in Europe. With a unique combination of strength and speed, Adama belongs to the pool of players that are tailor-made for the fast-paced and physical nature of English football.

It makes him an appealing target for West Ham, with coach David Moyes desperate for a new attacker in January. He is primarily looking for an alternative for Michail Antonio – someone who can offer depth and cover for the lone striker during the second half of the campaign. Hence, the club has been linked with a move for Mariano Diaz, among many other forwards across Europe.

In Adama, though, Moyes can find himself an attacker that brings considerable experience in English football. The Spaniard also offers variety with his unique traits in the final third, making him an ideal alternative for Antonio. However, it appears the Hammers are set to compete with fellow London outfit Tottenham Hotspur in the race to sign the Wolves forward this month.

Despite the departure of Nuno Espirito Santo, it seems the Lilywhites have retained their interest in Adama, with both Antonio Conte and Fabio Paratici believed to be huge admirers of the winger. Conte, in particular, is looking for a new right wing-back that can compete with Emerson Royal whilst allowing the club to offload Matt Doherty.

And with Wolves prepared to cash in on the 25-year-old Spanish international for just £20 million, it won’t be surprising to see these two London giants battle it out for the services of Adama. The player himself might be keen on taking the next step in his career after a four-and-a-half-year spell in the Midlands that has seen him appear in 150 competitive matches.
