Transfer News: AS Roma plotting loan move for Tanguy Ndombele

Tottenham midfielder Tanguy Ndombele has reportedly emerged as a January target for AS Roma, with Jose Mourinho eyeing a potential reunion.

According to Calciomercato, AS Roma are prepared to step up their efforts to sign Tanguy Ndombele. The Serie A giants are in the market for a new midfielder in the January transfer window, with the Tottenham Hotspur star emerging as one of many potential targets for Jose Mourinho.

Although reported Manchester United target Boubacar Kamara remains the priority for Roma, the club’s sporting director Tiago Pinto is currently working on a deal to sign Ndombele. The Giallorossi are not too keen on meeting Tottenham’s €30 million valuation, but they are seeking the possibility of a loan deal, potentially with a purchase clause included in the contract.

It is apparent that Ndombele has no future at his current club Tottenham. He has been deemed surplus to requirements by new coach Antonio Conte, with the midfielder making just six starts in the league this term. He has fallen behind Oliver Skipp, Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg and even Harry Winks in the pecking order, thus leading to speculation over his long-term future at the club.

That is where AS Roma come into the fray, as the Frenchman apparently shares a good relationship with Jose Mourinho. The duo worked together during their time at Tottenham, with the midfielder featuring in 40 competitive matches under the leadership of the Portuguese tactician.

Ndombele enjoyed some of his brightest spells at Spurs under the spell of Mourinho. It appears the former Tottenham manager is open to a potential reunion at AS Roma, who are in the market for a new midfielder that can work alongside the likes of Jordan Veretout and Bryan Cristante during the second half of the campaign.

Ndombele’s potential departure from North London could serve as a major boost for Tottenham, with Conte keen on filtering out the squad in January. The Italian mastermind has already shown the desire to offload Dele Alli, who is a target for Newcastle United, while Steven Bergwijn has been linked to a potential return to the Eredivisie.

Their exits should pave the way for Tottenham to target newer players in January. Adama Traore has emerged as a top target recently, especially with Wolves ready to offload the explosive forward for an affordable fee in January.
