According to a report by Spanish outlet Fichajes, Barcelona will have to pay the big bucks to sign Jose Gaya from Valencia in the summer transfer window. The Spanish international defender is valued at €50 million by Los Che.
Jose Gaya joined Valencia as a youth footballer in 2006 and was a first-team player for the club in no time. The Spaniard broke into the senior side in 2012 and has since cemented his legacy at the Mestalla. The 26-year-old has been a pivotal figure for Valencia for several years while also being promoted to the role of club captain at the onset of the 2020/21 season.
To date, the Spanish international has made 275 appearances for Valencia, chipping in with eight goals and 33 assists in the process. However, the La Liga club are in a spot of bother over Gaya’s contractual situation, as he has entered the final 18 months of his current deal. The situation has captured the attention of several clubs, including Barcelona.
The interest from Barcelona is understandable, considering Jordi Alba is in the twilight of his career.
