Barcelona and Alvaro Morata have reportedly reached an agreement over personal terms, bringing the 29-year-old closer to joining the Blaugrana.

According to reputed Italian journalist Romeo Agresti, Alvaro Morata is inching closer to joining Barcelona in the January transfer window. The 29-year-old Spanish international has reached an agreement over personal terms with the Blaugrana, leaving the ball in Juventus and Atletico Madrid’s courts to approve the transfer.

Alvaro Morata is currently at Juventus, having rejoined the Serie A club on loan from Atletico Madrid in September 2020. However, in the last 15 months, the player has blown hot and cold, with his struggles aligning with those of the Bianconeri in the season and a half that he has been back in Turin.

Morata’s fortunes have not changed this term, as the 29-year-old has registered only seven goals and three assists in 23 appearances across all competitions thus far. However, despite his struggles, Morata remains a sought-after player in the transfer market, with Barcelona keen on signing the Spanish international in January.

The Catalan giants have already established contact with Morata’s representatives over a possible loan move in the ongoing transfer window. The interest from Barcelona makes sense, as they cannot afford to pay huge sums on many signings this month after spending a lavish amount to land Ferran Torres.

However, despite Torres’s arrival from Manchester City, the Catalan giants need to sign a striker in the January transfer window. That is because Sergio Aguero’s premature retirement has left Xavi Hernandez bereft of quality options to spearhead his team’s attacking unit. To that end, Morata is a viable short-term option for Barcelona.

According to Romeo Agresti, Morata has agreed personal terms with Barcelona over an 18-month loan deal running until the summer of 2023. However, the transfer is not set in stone yet, as Juventus and Atletico Madrid will need to be open to seeing through a convoluted deal.

Recent reports have claimed that Atletico Madrid could block Morata’s move to Barcelona as they do not wish to strengthen a direct rival in a season when the top four battle is so intense. However, it remains to be seen if Barcelona can convince the reigning La Liga champions and Juventus to complete the signing of the 29-year-old Spanish international this month.
