Transfer News: Barcelona offered chance to sign Bryan Gil

Barcelona have reportedly been offered the chance to sign Tottenham attacker Bryan Gil in the January transfer window.

According to reputed Spanish journalist Gerard Romero, Bryan Gil has been offered to Barcelona through his representatives over a possible move in the January transfer window. The Tottenham attacker could be a long-term replacement for Ousmane Dembele.

Bryan Gil is widely regarded as one of the most promising young attackers in Spain, having made significant progress during his youth playing days with Sevilla. The 20-year-old joined Tottenham Hotspur from the Andalusian club in July 2021, with Erik Lamela heading the other way as part of the deal.

However, the Spanish international is yet to get going at Tottenham and is struggling to establish a foothold in their first-team setup. Gil has started only eight of the 23 games played by Tottenham thus far this season, chipping in with just one assist in the process. Such a situation has prompted his representatives to offer the youngster to Barcelona.

The 20-year-old has previously been on Barcelona’s radar, and the Catalan giants were heavily linked with him before he joined Tottenham. Recent reports have also claimed that the Blaugrana’s interest has not waned, and that makes a world of sense.

While Ferran Torres’s acquisition will reinforce the Barcelona attack considerably, Ousmane Dembele’s uncertain future puts the club in a spot of bother. The Frenchman has rejected Barcelona’s latest contract offer after coming ever so close to renewing terms with them.

Dembele has been linked with several clubs following the development, with Tottenham’s Premier League rivals Chelsea and Manchester United keen on signing him. As a result, Barcelona will need to enter the transfer market for a wide-attacker despite signing Torres. To that end, Gil could be a viable target for the Blaugrana.

However, it is unclear if Barcelona will take up the offer to sign the Tottenham forward. So, it remains to be seen if the Catalan giants look to launch the offensive to secure the services of the 20-year-old Spanish international in the January transfer window or turn their attention towards some other forward instead, with Anthony Martial and Hakim Ziyech also offered to them.
