Transfer News: Real Madrid submit enquiry for Denzel Dumfries

Real Madrid have reportedly made an approach to ask about the availability of 25-year-old Inter Milan defender Denzel Dumfries.

As reported by Spanish publication SPORT, Denzel Dumfries has become a key target for Real Madrid. The Spanish giants have already made an approach to ask about the 25-year-old defender’s availability. However, Inter Milan’s stance over a transfer is unknown.

Denzel Dumfries joined Inter Milan this past summer following a productive three-year stint with PSV Eindhoven. And after a slow start to life at San Siro, the Dutch international has established himself as a key figure for the Serie A champions, filling the void left by Achraf Hakimi’s exit in the same window.

The 25-year-old has made 21 appearances for Inter Milan thus far this season, chipping in with three goals and three assists in the process. Dumfries’s fantastic progress since joining the Nerazzurri has not gone unnoticed, with several European bigwigs, including Real Madrid, keen on signing him.

The interest from Real Madrid is understandable, considering Dani Carvajal is the only natural right-back at Carlo Ancelotti’s disposal. While Lucas Vazquez was impressive as a makeshift right-back in the 2020/21 season, he has struggled to impress in the role in the ongoing campaign.

As a result, the Spaniard has been largely utilised in an advanced role this season. As for Carvajal, the Spanish international has been beset by several fitness issues in the past year, which is why it behoves Real Madrid to sign a right-back at the earliest opportunity.

While Alvaro Odriozola has enjoyed a solid loan spell with Serie A club Fiorentina, he is likely to be sold once he returns to Real Madrid. As a result, Dumfries is a viable target for Real Madrid, with recent reports even suggesting that a January move was being considered.

The update from SPORT does not indicate when Real Madrid will launch the offensive for the 25-year-old. However, the Spanish giants have made an approach for the Dutch defender to ask about his unavailability. It is unclear if Inter Milan will let Dumfries leave shortly after his arrival,  but the Serie A champions will likely oppose such an idea.
