Barcelona are reportedly poised to secure the services of 17-year-old Spanish prodigy Fabio Blanco from Bundesliga club Eintracht Frankfurt.
According to a report by Spanish publication SPORT, Fabio Blanco is set to become Barcelona’s third acquisition in the January transfer window. However, the 17-year-old Eintracht Frankfurt prodigy will be assigned to Barcelona B after signing a two and a half-year contract with the club.
Fabio Blanco is widely regarded as one of the brightest young players in the continent in his age group. A product of the Valencia academy, the teenage prodigy ran down his deal with Los Che searching for a club that would hand him regular game-time at the first-team level. As a result, he joined Eintracht Frankfurt in the summer.
However, the transfer has not panned out as envisioned for the 17-year-old, who has been confined to the under-19 side, making eight appearances for the Bundesliga club’s age-group team. As a result, Blanco has been left frustrated, and he is seeking a January exit from Eintracht Frankfurt. Such a situation has alerted Barcelona.
Barcelona and Real Madrid were the two clubs linked most heavily with Blanco in the summer transfer window before he decided to join Eintracht Frankfurt. While Real Madrid’s pursuit of the 17-year-old prodigy has ended, Barcelona’s interest has not waned much.
The Catalan giants have now kicked into action following the latest development, and the agreement over a January move is poised to be reached soon. However, Blanco will not join the Blaugrana’s first team and will instead be assigned to Barcelona B after signing a two and a half-year contract.
Such a situation might leave the 17-year-old frustrated again. However, Blanco can take heart from Gavi and Nico Gonzalez’s promotion to the senior side this season. And with Ousmane Dembele’s fitness woes well documented, the Eintracht Frankfurt whizkid will fancy his chances, especially with Yusuf Demir deemed surplus to requirements at Barcelona.
Jose Ramon Alexanco, the director of Barcelona’s academy, signed Blanco for Valencia, and he is now set to bring the 17-year-old to the Catalan club. With that, the teenage prodigy will become the third January signing for Barcelona following Dani Alves and Ferran Torres’s acquisition.
