Donny van de Beek and Jadon Sancho should start while Bruno Fernandes will miss out when Manchester United take on Burnley in the Premier League.
Manchester United will be aiming to get back to winning ways and move up the Premier League standings when they play hosts to Burnley at Old Trafford on Thursday night.
Heading up to the game, Manchester United have been dealt with a couple of fresh roster blows as Victor Lindelof is ruled out after testing positive for coronavirus. At the same time, Bruno Fernandes is suspended due to an accumulation of yellow cards. Apart from the duo, Paul Pogba will also miss out as he is yet to recover from his injury.
Manchester United vs Burnley Preview: Probable Lineups, Prediction, Tactics, Team News & Key Stats
Given the short turnover between the games, manager Ralf Rangnick is expected to shake things up with his team selection. Both the full-back slots could see a reshuffle as Aaron Wan-Bissaka and Luke Shaw are in line to replace Diogo Dalot and Alex Telles, respectively.
There could be one change in defence, though, with Raphael Varane, who only recently returned to action, likely to be given a rest after a scratchy display. Speaking of the Frenchman’s return in his presser Rangnick said: “Raphael [Varane] hasn’t played for five or six weeks and even before the Tottenham game he was injured, so in total over the last three months, he hasn’t played that many games.”
The former Real Madrid could make way for Eric Bailly, who was recalled by Manchester United after he had flown for international duty with Ivory Coast for the Africa Cup of Nations. Manchester United captain, Harry Maguire, ought to hold on to his spot in the backline while David de Gea continues in goal.
The midfield could also see a change, with veteran midfielder Nemanja Matic expected to come into the starting XI at the expense of Fred. He will have Scott McTominay as his partner in the middle of the park, with the Scotsman likely to shake off the knock he picked up against Newcastle United.
Fernandes’ suspension should pave the way for Donny van de Beek to get a rare start as one of the two attacking midfielders for the Red Devils. The Netherlands international should have summer signing Jadon Sancho alongside him, who will look to make a vital contribution after a rather underwhelming start to life in Manchester United.
Up top, there could be a couple of tweaks as well, as both Marcus Rashford and Cristiano Ronaldo are likely to be axed from the starting XI, with Edinson Cavani and Mason Greenwood expected to come into the lineup.
Manchester United Predicted XI: de Gea, Wan-Bissaka, Bailly, Maguire, Shaw, McTominay, Matic, van de Beek, Sancho, Greenwood, Cavani.
