Cadiz have struck an agreement with Barcelona and Sevilla for the signing of Luuk de Jong on loan for the rest of the 2021/22 season.
According to a report from Mundo Deportivo, Barcelona, Sevilla, and Cadiz have reached a three-way agreement for the latter to sign Dutch striker Luuk de Jong on loan for the rest of the ongoing campaign.
De Jong has been playing for Barcelona since the summer transfer deadline day, after arriving on loan from Sevilla with an option to make the transfer permanent at the end of the season. Brought in as a replacement for Antoine Griezmann, the 31-year-old has proven to be an uninspired addition to the Catalans’ roster.
To date, the 31-year-old has scored just one goal in 12 matches across all competitions and has been completely out of favour under new manager Xavi Hernandez. With Barcelona set to sign Ferran Torres imminently, the Netherlands international would be falling further down the pecking order at Camp Nou.
With Barcelona keen on freeing up space on their wage bill, the club were looking to part ways with de Jong ahead of the January transfer window. And it seems like they will be able to get rid of the former Newcastle United striker sooner rather than later.
As per the report mentioned above, Barcelona have agreed with Sevilla to cut short the towering Dutchman’s loan deal midway through the season. The Andalusian giants, who are keen to sign a new striker, do not want to keep de Jong at the club and, in turn, have an agreement with La Liga strugglers Cadiz to loan him out to them for the rest of the campaign.
With all three clubs on the same page, the only thing that is holding the deal back is the striker’s go-ahead. Reports have indicated that de Jong might not be entirely convinced by a move as Cadiz are currently in 19th place in the La Liga table. He wants to join a team with bigger sporting aspirations
So, despite the three clubs involved reaching an agreement, it still remains to be seen if this transfer sees the light of the day.
