Transfer News: Liverpool plotting Eduardo Camavinga swoop

Liverpool are reportedly prepared to provide Eduardo Camavinga with an escape route out of his frustrations at Real Madrid in a €45 million deal.

According to a report by Catalan outlet El Nacional, Eduardo Camavinga is increasingly frustrated by his situation at Real Madrid and could seek a move away from the club in next summer’s transfer window. And the French midfielder has popped up on the radar of Liverpool, with the Reds prepared to pay €45 million to sign him.

Eduardo Camavinga is widely regarded as one of the most promising young midfielders in Europe, having made quite a splash since breaking into the Stade Rennais first-team setup aged just 16. After spending two years with the French club, the teenage prodigy became one of the most sought-after players in Europe, and he eventually decided to join Real Madrid this past summer.

However, the transfer to Real Madrid has not worked out as envisioned for Camavinga, as he is behind Luka Modric, Toni Kroos, Casemiro and Federico Valverde in the pecking order. As a result, after a strong start to life as a Real Madrid player, the going has been tough for the Frenchman in the Spanish capital.

The 19-year-old has managed just 620 minutes of game-time at Real Madrid thus far, chipping in with one goal and one assist in 17 appearances across all competition. However, after failing to establish himself as a regular, Camavinga’s frustrations have boiled over, and he could seek an exit from the club. Such a situation has alerted Liverpool.

The Reds hold a long-standing interest in Camavinga, having made previous attempts to sign him during his days as a Rennes player. Liverpool’s rekindled pursuit of the French midfielder makes sense, though, considering they chose not to replace Georginio Wijnaldum when he joined Paris Saint-Germain in the summer.

Instead, Liverpool promoted Harvey Elliott as a central midfielder, with the young Englishman even impressing in the season’s early stages. However, with James Milner in the twilight of his career and Jordan Henderson on the wrong side of 30, it would behove Liverpool to invest in a young midfielder, especially with Naby Keita and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain blowing hot and cold.

To that end, Camavinga is a viable target for the Merseyside club, who are ready to launch the offensive to prise him away from Real Madrid. However, Liverpool will need to pay €45 million to sign the 19-year-old, as the Spanish giants wish to make a quick profit on his sale if forced to cash in on him.

For their part, the Premier League heavyweights are ready to table a €45 million bid to secure the services of Camavinga. However, realistically speaking, a departure from Real Madrid is highly unlikely, as Luka Modric is in the final phase of his career, meaning it is only a matter of time before Camavinga becomes a firm first-choice. So, Liverpool could have to sign another midfielder, with Piotr Zielinski among their targets.
